Mouse and Rat Control in Greenford

Greenford has the Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal running through it and industrial estates alongside. Between the two there is a permanent rat population within reach of the housing.

Mice Pest Control is an Uxbridge-based rodent specialist covering Greenford, Perivale, Northolt and the surrounding UB6 streets. We work mice and rats only, and proofing the entry point is what we build every job around.

Why Greenford gets rats

The Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal cuts straight through Greenford, and canal corridors are among the most reliable rat habitats in London. The banks, the towpath vegetation and the ground under bridges give year-round harbourage, and the population is stable rather than seasonal. Gardens backing onto the canal or the Brent get the pressure first, usually into sheds, compost, decking voids and the space under garden buildings.

The industrial and trade estates along Greenford Road, Rockware Avenue and towards Perivale add the second half. Large commercial buildings with roller shutters, loading bays and waste compounds are difficult to seal, and food-related units in particular sustain rodent numbers. When a unit changes hands, a waste regime tightens or a site is redeveloped, the population that was living there disperses into the streets nearby.

The housing is mostly interwar semi-detached and terraced, which brings the usual weaknesses: suspended timber ground floors, open cavities, generous eaves at the wall plate, and unsealed pipe runs behind kitchen units. Once a mouse is under the floor of a terrace it has the whole row available through the party wall voids.

What we do about it

The technician surveys the property, garden and outbuildings first, working back from droppings, smear marks and gnawing to the harbourage and the entry route. Treatment matches the property: tamper-resistant bait stations, break-back trapping where there are children, pets or food handling on site, or both.

For rats we assess the drainage as standard. A cracked or displaced drain run is the most common route into an older property here and the one most often missed, and baiting a property with an open drain fault is money spent for nothing.

Proofing finishes it. Gaps are closed with stainless steel wool, rodent mesh, metal plate and mortar, doors get rodent-proof brush strip, and air bricks are meshed rather than blocked so the wall keeps breathing. Rodents chew through foam and sealant, so those are never the fix on their own. For a whole-building job with a follow-up inspection, see super-proofing.

Local, qualified, guaranteed

We are family run and fully insured, our technicians hold the RSPH (BPCA) Level 2 qualification, and every treatment is backed by a written guarantee. A free survey is available on request and same-day or next-day appointments are often possible in Greenford.

Frequently asked questions

Our garden backs onto the canal. Can anything actually stop the rats?
You will not clear the canal population, but you can make your property a poor target. That means removing accessible food and harbourage in the garden, compost, bird feed, the void under decking and sheds, and proofing the building itself so a rat in the garden never becomes a rat in the kitchen. Done properly it holds.
Could the problem be coming from the industrial estate?
It is a common source. Large commercial units with loading bays and waste compounds are hard to seal and support significant numbers, and when a site changes or is redeveloped that population disperses into surrounding streets. It does not change what we do at your property, but it does explain why a whole road can get hit at once.
How do I tell rats from mice?
Droppings are the clearest sign. Mouse droppings are about the size of a grain of rice; rat droppings are considerably larger and tapered at the ends. Rats also sound heavier overhead, leave greasier smear marks along their runs, and cause visible gnawing damage to timber, cabling and pipework.
Do you work with businesses in Greenford?
Yes, including shops, takeaways, restaurants and units on the trade estates. Food premises have a legal duty to remain free from rodents, so we favour trapping where food is handled, work around operating hours where possible, and leave a written record of the treatment for your due-diligence file.
Do you cover Perivale and Northolt?
Yes. We cover UB6 and the neighbouring areas including Perivale, Northolt, Southall and Ealing, alongside Hillingdon and the rest of West London.
