Standard proofing is targeted: find the active entry point, seal it, done. Super-proofing takes the opposite approach. We treat the property as a whole and systematically close every viable rodent entry route on it, whether or not anything is currently using them. It is the option people choose when they have had rodents more than once, when they are about to renovate or let a property, or when they simply do not want to think about it again.
What is included
The job starts with a full survey of the building, not just the room where you have heard scratching. We work externally around the whole footprint and internally through every accessible void.
- Ground level: door thresholds, garage and outbuilding doors, air bricks, gaps at the damp-proof course, gaps behind and under external units.
- Service penetrations: gas, water, waste, cable and boiler flue entries, inside and out, including the ones hidden behind kitchen units and bath panels.
- Roof line: eaves and soffit gaps, lifted or slipped tiles, open verges, and the gap where a flat roof meets the main wall, all common rat and mouse routes into a loft.
- Cavities and party walls: open cavity heads and shared wall voids, which are how mice travel between terraced and semi-detached properties without ever going outside.
- Internal voids: under kitchen units, behind bath panels, boxing around soil pipes, and floor voids where pipework passes between rooms.
Materials that actually hold
Rodents chew through foam, plastic and sealant, so we do not depend on them. Depending on the gap we use stainless steel wool packed under mortar, rodent mesh, metal plate, cement fillet and rodent-proof brush strip. Ventilation openings are meshed rather than blocked, so the building still breathes.
The follow-up inspection
Every super-proofing job includes a return visit. Buildings move, contractors open things up, and occasionally a route only shows itself once the obvious ones are shut. At the follow-up the technician re-walks the property, checks the sealed points, and deals with anything that has been missed or disturbed at no extra cost.
Who it suits
Super-proofing makes most sense on older West London housing stock: Victorian and Edwardian terraces with shared party walls and suspended floors, 1930s semis with generous eaves, and converted flats where the original service runs were never sealed. It is also the sensible option for landlords and food businesses, where a repeat infestation costs far more than the proofing did.
Where there are rodents in the property now, we clear them first, then proof, so nothing is sealed in. Our technicians are qualified to RSPH (BPCA) Level 2, we are family run and fully insured, and the work carries a written guarantee. We are based in Uxbridge and cover West London.
