Mouse and Rat Control in Ealing

Ealing is mice country. Victorian and Edwardian terraces, thousands of flat conversions and a dense restaurant trade give mice shared wall voids, unsealed service runs and a reliable food supply.

Mice Pest Control is a rodent specialist covering Ealing, West Ealing, Hanwell, Northfields and the surrounding W5, W7 and W13 streets. Mice and rats are all we do, and sealing the way in is the part of the job that separates a fix from a repeat visit.

Why Ealing has a mouse problem

The building stock explains most of it. Ealing is largely Victorian and Edwardian terraced and semi-detached housing, much of it now divided into flats. Two features of that construction matter enormously.

The first is the shared party wall. Terraced properties of this era have continuous voids running between them at floor and roof level, so mice move from house to house without ever going outside. This is why an entire section of a street often reports mice within weeks of each other, and why treating one property in isolation rarely holds.

The second is the conversions. When a house is split into flats the service runs for gas, water, waste and cabling are cut through floors and walls, and they are very often never sealed. That leaves a vertical route from a basement or ground-floor void straight up into the kitchen of a top-floor flat. It is the entry point we find most in Ealing, and it is invisible until someone takes a kitchen plinth or a bath panel off.

Add the restaurant and takeaway density along the Broadway, West Ealing and the Uxbridge Road, plus the waste that comes with it, and there is a food supply supporting rodent populations right through the residential streets behind.

How we treat it

We survey before quoting, following droppings, smear marks and gnawing back to the harbourage and the entry route rather than baiting on spec. Treatment is matched to the property: tamper-resistant bait stations, break-back trapping where there are children, pets or food handling, or a combination.

Proofing then does the lasting work. In a converted flat that means sealing the internal routes as thoroughly as the external ones, because the mice are usually coming from elsewhere in the building rather than from the street. We use stainless steel wool, rodent mesh, metal plate and mortar, not foam or sealant, which mice chew through in a night.

Where the source is clearly a communal area, a shared basement or a neighbouring commercial unit, we tell you plainly so you can take it to the freeholder or managing agent with something concrete behind it.

Qualified and guaranteed

We are family run and fully insured, our technicians hold the RSPH (BPCA) Level 2 qualification, and every treatment carries a written guarantee. A free survey is available on request. For a whole-building job, see super-proofing.

Frequently asked questions

I am in a converted flat. How are mice reaching the top floor?
Almost always through unsealed service runs. When a house is split into flats, the holes cut through floors and walls for gas, water, waste and cabling are frequently left open, creating a vertical route from the basement or ground-floor void to the top of the building. Sealing those runs is usually the whole fix.
My neighbours have mice as well. Is there any point treating just my house?
Treating alone helps but rarely holds, because Ealing terraces have continuous voids through the party walls. The answer is to proof the internal routes into your property as well as treating, so that even with an active population next door they cannot reach you. Coordinating with neighbours makes it faster still.
Can you deal with mice coming from a restaurant below?
We can proof your property against them and we will tell you clearly what we have found. Where the source is a commercial unit or communal area, that evidence is what you need for the freeholder, managing agent or the council. We cannot treat premises we have not been engaged for.
Do you cover Hanwell and Northfields too?
Yes. We cover Ealing Broadway, West Ealing, Hanwell, Northfields and the surrounding W5, W7 and W13 area, along with Greenford, Southall, Northolt and the rest of West London.
How disruptive is the work?
Less than people expect. The survey needs access to kitchen plinths, bath panels, cupboards and the loft where there is one. Proofing work is mostly small, tidy interventions at specific points rather than anything structural, and a typical flat is done in a single visit.
